While the weather this weekend wasn’t as fantastic as it was on Thursday or Friday, we are hoping for some sunshine for Winter Break (Feb. 19-27)!

Join us at 11 a.m. daily for our “Critters in the Cold” animal demos, where some of our animals will perform enrichment activities that show their amazing adaptations to the cold weather.

During these demos, visitors will learn how river otters can swim in frigid waters, Amur tigers stay protected from the extreme cold, snow leopards can live in high-altitude habitats where the air is thin and polar bears can thrive in the Arctic.

So don’t miss out on some educational fun this week while the kids are off from school!

If you have little ones that love the Zoo, remember Book and Beast story hour at 11 a.m. every Wednesday through March. Free with Zoo admission, this event takes place in the Zoo’s ZOT Zone. Children will listen to an animal-related story and meet one of our Education Collection animals afterward!

It’s a great event with a pretty decent turnout even on the coldest days, so make sure you check it out the next time you are here on a Wednesday!

While you would think not much happens around this time, the Zoo was busy this weekend, with our sold-out winter ZooBrrrew on Friday (Feb. 4) and a birthday party for Roscoe, one of our white rhinos, today (Feb. 5)!

Friday’s ZooBrrrew featured delicious food for a variety of appetites, from wood-fired pizzas, two kinds of chili, jambalaya, even cheesecake on a stick! Music from Brian Rath was received well, and conversations between guests filled the heated Eagle’s Landing Pavilion throughout the night.

Zoo visitors also came out for a birthday celebration for Roscoe  on Saturday, learning about adaptations of the white rhino from our knowledgeable Docent team as well as listening to a talk about rhino conservation from one of our Zoo Keepers. Both Roscoe and his half-brother, Bill, enjoyed some time in the snow!

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl Sunday tomorrow!
