Children and parents alike can explore the Zoo at nighttime while enjoying animal encounters, critter challenge activities and docent touch table stations to learn about different animal adaptations in the wild. You’ll also have the chance to watch our zoo keepers as they perform some enrichment activities with our animals. There will be plenty of other fun going on too – live entertainment, a children’s storyteller, games, prizes, crafts, face painting and more!

Are you a member of the Zoo? Our members at the Household PLUS, Grandparent PLUS, Penguin Circle and Special Friend levels will receive an exclusive invitation to attend one night for for free, so upgrade your membership level to one of the ones listed and take advantage of this great benefit!

The Zoo attended the 27th Annual RARES Spring Vendor Fair yesterday (April 12) at the RIT Inn & Conference Center, which gave us a chance to talk to RARES members about exciting happenings – membership deals and discounts, new animals and exhibits, our catering services, upcoming events, education programs and more.

We even raffled a Zoo membership, to be drawn this Friday. If you were at the fair and entered our raffle, we will contact the winner by phone that day.

Today’s (April 10) overcast weather didn’t deter the community from participating in our first Go Green! Recycle Rally of 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme for the event focused on destroying tax documents though we received many computers, TVs, batteries and various other electronic devices. By 10:30 a.m., we already had six pallets filled – and many more after that! People could also enjoy samples of Snapple and enter for a chance to win Sugarland tickets at the 92.5 WBEE tent set up nearby. A few local TV stations stopped by to check out the event and chat with our Conservation Education Coordinator Tina Crandall-Gommel.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks joined Zoo officials to talk about the importance of the improvements to the exhibit and about our top-notch breeding colony of 33 penguins. We are thrilled to be able to bring these fascinating animals back on exhibit for our visitors – visit this weekend and check it out for yourself!
