Thanks to everyone for coming out to Bill’s birthday party. He and his brother Roscoe really seemed to enjoy themselves! In the top picture, birthday cards for Bill are displayed. In the two bottom pictures, Bill and Roscoe are about to enjoy delicious piles of bananas and watermelon while a crowd gathers to sing Happy Birthday!

The turnout for our Bills Day event this past weekend was a hit, and we thank everyone who came out to enjoy the Zoo that day; we had a live broadcast from 98 PXY, Billy the Buffalo and several of the Buffalo Jills cheerleaders were on hand to say hello, even Rocky our mascot came out for the occasion! We also want to thank all of the kids that decorated birthday cards for Bill, one of our white rhinos…he turns 6 this Saturday (August 28)! Check out some of the great photos that were taken!

Camper sale update!

Our Critters in Crisis campers raised $200 during their sale this week, which will be used to help rehabilitate wildlife affected by the Gulf oil spill. Photo by Kelli O'Brien.

After working hard all week making crafts to sell, our Critters in Crisis campers raised $200 for the rehabilitation of wildlife affected by the Gulf oil spill! That’s twice as much as the camp made last year, which is fantastic! The sale went on yesterday (August 12) afternoon and this morning.

The campers presented the check to Animal Curator David Hamilton after our World of Wild Wonders stage show this afternoon. The campers also chimed in with a “Happy Birthday” song, as it was David’s birthday today!

Thanks to all who stopped by and purchased items. A little bit goes a long way.

Bernie the Duck also took some time from his busy show schedule to do a photo op with the kids:

A camper holds up a homemade bag she made.

This week, campers in the Critters in Crisis ZooCamp session have been learning all about different kinds of endangered species and the little things that people can do to help make a difference. The campers have been hard at work making a variety of homemade items, decorating bags, and making jewelry, to sell at their Critters for Crisis Sale this Thursday and Friday. All items will be $1 each and proceeds go toward wildlife affected by the Gulf Oil Spill.

The sale will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 12 and 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, August 13, across from the E.C.O. Center. We hope you will take some time out of your Zoo visit and peruse their items!
